This essay ends with three annexes, the first of which is a profile of Manso Preto, who was convicted for contempt of court in 2004, twelve years after he was handed out the Gold Medal of the Oporto Regional Section on Drug Investigation of the Portuguese Criminal Police (SRITE-PJ), in recognition of the contribution of his journalistic work to the authorities investigations.

The other two annexes are two interviews with Manso Preto, one on 25 January 2005, after the conviction, and the other on 25 November 2005, after the acquittal. Both of them are previously unpublished.

On the first interview, the disenchantment and perplexity of the journalist towards the verdict are apparent, while in the second interview Manso Preto calls for the checking of his statements as a witness in the Pinto brothers' process and for the analysis of their case.
